Hello
| |
|
As
Crisis Care Network celebrates its
10th Anniversary this month, we pause
to reflect upon the challenges and
accomplishments inherent in response to over
30,000 workplace critical incidents. Yes, we
have evolved through a decade of industry
fluctuations and technological/operational
advances but one thing has remained constant –
WE SERVE PEOPLE on what may be the
worst day of their lives. Doing so is both an
awesome responsibility and privilege. We must do
it well and must keep learning how to do it
better.
Evidence-based
practice has become increasingly important in
all aspects of medical care, including
behavioral health. Critical Incident Response
services have rightly also received increased
scrutiny as utilization has increased following
workplace tragedies.
Psychological
First Aid (PFA) is the concept currently
advocated by most authoritative guidelines.
Effective PFA practice to the workplace requires
not only developing expertise in a spectrum of
evidence-informed interventions but, even more
importantly, attending to assessment of the
impacted organization’s corporate culture and
business objectives, tailoring responses that
fit those objectives, partnering with leadership
to position and resource them favorably after
the response is completed, and fostering the use
of individual/workgroup resiliency
resources. Please
review this edition’s synthesis of articles
intended to address updates in PFA and their
application to the workplace. Crisis Care
Network remains committed to keeping you
apprised of the latest information,
publications, trends and events shaping best
practices in Critical Incident Response
services.
Best,

Psychological First Aid
Field Operations
Guide | |
| Developed
by the National Center for PTSD and the
National Child Traumatic Stress
Network, this 2nd edition of the Field
Operations Manual continues to set the standard
for delivering evidence-informed intervention
following a disaster or act of terrorism. PFA
offers a modular approach to assist adults,
adolescents, children, and families in the
immediate aftermath of an event and is designed
to reduce initial emotional distress while
facilitating resilience and coping among
recipients. The flexibility of PFA makes
application of the basic principles to workplace
crisis response readily apparent. This edition
also includes many valuable handouts for
educating and supporting a wide range of
populations. To view or download the manual

Traumatic Events in the
Workplace: Toward Effective
Policy | |
|
This informative article by Mark
Braverman, PhD, provides an in-depth analysis of
how trauma impacts the workplace, and the
implications for policy formation. Rather
than simplistically viewing crises as situations
to control and contain, Dr. Braverman makes
the case that traumatic events represent an
important opportunity for organizations to
develop those capacities that will carry them
successfully into the future. To read the
